My new video series, Character Creation!

Hi, it's been a while! It's me, Starlight!

Me and my friends have worked out a fun idea for a video series that involves writing characters and doing art, my two favorite things!

And so, here's the first character I made in the series, Ja'eryl Shatterscale!

Prompt:
Crime alert!  This character is a criminal with a highly impractical weapon.  Magic or just complex, this tool is all they need to fight and commit their crimes.

Writing:

The world is Earth, the other Earth, where my story “The Lost Doctor’s Soul” is set, a fantasy world with ‘swords and magic’ as they say.

Once a month, large storms known as the ‘confluences’ occur, cutting all long range communication magic and causing various natural disasters. A certain criminal uses these storms as an opportunity to run their illegal activities.

Ja’eryl Shatterscale is a merfolk woman who wields a massive umbrella as her unconventional weapon and tool of choice. Enchanted with magic and acting as a perfect conduit for her strange magic.

Once a regular merchant who worked in her family’s caravan, her life was turned upside down when a noble lord’s neglect caused a shelter to collapse during one of these confluences, injuring her parents and killing several of her friends and family. Since then, she has come to live by the motto ‘if they aren’t using it right, then I might as well have it’ as she stole from various nobles and authorities.

One of her umbrella’s abilities is that it can collect water and store it in a pocket dimension within it. Mixed with her own alchemical magic, she infuses this stored water with various drugs, either using it to put guards and witnesses to sleep, paralysing any guard that tries to fight her, or coating the special metal of the umbrella in acid to let her simply break any locks she encounters. Another one of its abilities is to mask her magical presence to avoid any detection spells.

Standing at six feet tall, with dark green hair that reaches her lower back that’s usually tied in a long tail, Ja’eryl makes a striking figure. She usually dresses in dark green or blue clothing, accentuating her facial features with dark makeup rather than trying to don any kind of disguise. By this point, her bounty has reached something approaching twenty gold coins, which is no small number. The only reason it isn’t higher is because of her strict adhesion to her rule of never taking a life in pursuit of profit.
